While We Have Today

Praying for all of us. ❤️🙏

“Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.”

—Psalm 39:4 (KJV)

We sure do have a way of living like there will always be more time.

More time to make that phone call. More time to say, “I’m sorry.” More time to forgive somebody, chase that dream, or tend to whatever God has been nudging us toward.

But someday can be a slippery thing. Before we know it, weeks have wandered off and years have gone right along behind them.

David wasn’t asking the Lord to make him scared of dying. He was asking Him to help him make sense of living—to remember that his days were precious because they wouldn’t last forever.

That kind of knowing can clear the cobwebs. Some fusses aren’t worth another breath. Some grudges have ridden along with us long enough. And some worries have been sitting at our table, eating up our peace, without ever bringing a thing to the meal.

We may not know how much road lies ahead, but we do have the patch of ground beneath our feet today.

We can make the call. Offer the apology. Say, “I love you,” while the words can still be heard. We can sit awhile with someone who is lonely and stop saving our kindness for a better time.

A life doesn’t have to be long to leave something lovely behind. A gentle word, a faithful prayer, or one small kindness can travel farther than we’ll ever see.

We can’t add another square to the calendar, but we can place this day in God’s hands and trust Him to help us live it well.

Prayer

Father, thank You for today. Help me quit wasting precious time on old hurts, needless fussing, and worries I was never meant to carry. Show me where love is waiting for me to act. Give me the courage to stop putting off what matters, and help me walk through this day resting in Your strength. In Jesus’ name, amen.
