When God’s Way Doesn’t Make Sense Yet

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5–6, NIV

Sometimes God’s next “yes” asks us to step away from what feels safe and familiar. We like a tidy plan, a clear map, and enough answers to make us comfortable before we take the first step. But faith does not always come with a set of instructions tied up in a pretty bow.

There may be times when obeying God disappoints the version of us that wants everything explained first. The part of us that says, “Lord, I’ll go—just tell me exactly how it will turn out.” Yet Proverbs does not tell us to trust our own understanding. It tells us to trust the Lord with all our hearts.

That does not mean God asks us to be careless, ignore wisdom, or follow every passing feeling. We test what we hear against His Word, seek godly counsel, pray, and walk in obedience. God will never lead us to do something that contradicts Scripture. When His Word is clear, we do not have to wait until every detail makes sense before we obey.
Friend, you may not see the whole road, but you know the One who does. The Lord is not asking you to figure out tomorrow; He is asking you to trust Him today. Put your hand in His, take the next faithful step, and let Him handle the bends in the road.

Prayer for today:

Lord, help me trust You when I can not see the whole picture. Give me wisdom to follow Your Word, courage to obey, and peace to leave the results in Your hands. In Jesus’ name, amen.
