“You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me!” — John 5:39 NLT

The Pharisees knew a lot. They knew Scripture, traditions, rules, and all the right religious language. They could probably quote passages most people had never even heard of. Yet somehow, they missed the very Person all those Scriptures were pointing to—Jesus. It is easy to read that and think, How could they not recognize Him?
When we are honest with ourselves, we do something similar. We can read our Bible, attend church, listen to sermons, post encouraging verses, and still move through the day without truly paying attention to Jesus. We can become more focused on doing everything correctly than on knowing Him personally. We can make faith feel like a checklist: pray, read, serve, repeat.
Jesus did not come simply to make us more religious. He came so we could know God, walk with Him, receive His grace, and be changed by His love.God’s Word is not meant to become a substitute for God’s presence. Scripture is a doorway that leads us to Jesus. When we read it, we should not only ask, “What rule should I follow?” We should also ask, “Jesus, what are You showing me about Yourself?”
Maybe Jesus is standing in front of you today through a conviction you keep pushing aside. Maybe He is speaking through a verse that will not leave your mind. Maybe He is asking you to slow down, forgive someone, trust Him with something difficult, or simply sit quietly in His presence.Do not get so busy with religious activity that you miss a relationship with Christ. Ask Him for fresh eyes today. He is closer than you think.
Prayer for today:
Jesus, help me never become so focused on routine, rules, or knowledge that I miss You. Open my eyes to see You clearly in Your Word and in my everyday life. Draw my heart closer to You, and help me follow You with genuine love. Amen.
