“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” — Luke 9:23 (KJV)

Let’s be real. Most of us spend a good chunk of our lives chasing comfort. A warm home, a steady paycheck, a life that runs smooth and easy. There’s nothing wrong with wanting those things — but the problem comes when we start thinking that’s what faith in Jesus is all about. A cozy faith. A convenient Christianity.
But Jesus never once said, “Follow me, and everything will be easy.” He said the opposite. He said, “Pick up your cross — daily.” That’s not a comfortable assignment. That’s a kingdom assignment.
See, God didn’t save you just so you could have a nice life. He saved you for a purpose bigger than your comfort zone. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Before you were born, God had a plan — good works He prepared in advance for you.
Walking in that purpose will cost you something. Time, sleep, money, or popularity. It might mean forgiving somebody who hurt you. It might mean stepping out in faith when you’d rather stay put. But the joy of fulfilling God’s assignment far outweighs the comfort of staying in your lane.
Think about the disciples. Every one of them gave up something — boats, families, careers, safety — to follow Jesus. Not because it was comfortable, but because they’d met the Master and nothing else mattered after that.
What’s God calling you to that feels uncomfortable? Maybe it’s talking to a neighbor who needs the Lord. Maybe it’s serving where nobody notices. Maybe it’s being faithful right where you are, day in and day out.
Your purpose isn’t about your comfort. It’s about fulfilling God’s kingdom assignment. And when you finally say yes to Him, you’ll discover that His purpose brings a deeper joy than comfort ever could.
Prayer for today:
Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve put my comfort above. Your calling. Help me take up my cross daily and follow You with a willing heart. Show me the kingdom assignment You’ve prepared for me, and give me the courage to step into it — even when it’s hard. Use my life for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
